ONTARIO CRAFT BREWERS MAP
ArcGIS Pro, 2018
The Ontario Craft Brewers is an association of 60+ member breweries committed to promoting craft beer within the Province of Ontario. I used their member list, which is only a subset of the many craft brewers in the province, as a dataset with which to populate the map.
This map was updated based on an earlier work where I experimented with using ArcMap 10.3 to achieve the aesthetics of historic maps. With ArcGIS Pro I revisited the map and updated the dataset and cartography to further explore the ability to replicate cartographic styles of old.
While creating this map I reviewed a number of maps from the early 1920’s and was drawn to using the water-colour tints to distinguish polygons. Another feature I attempted to incorporate was the distinct hand inked font used within my reference material. I was unable to identify the specific typeface or find a suitable digital substitute so I authored my own typeface to fill the void in my design. This was a personal first and added to overall learning experience of creating this map.
